What is communication? It is about the message(s) we get across to other people and the corresponding reactions and feelings elicited both to them and to ourselves… Are we aggressive? Do we offend others (quite often unknowingly)? Do we show indifference, are we self-centered, emotionally unavailable or egotistical? Or, on the other hand, we may be too submissive, keen to do favors to other people, try to please them and be liked, while we forget to like ourselves…
You see, communication is a complex and complicated matter; yet, it can be boiled down to 2-3 relatively simple skills (active listening, empathy, assertive behavior etc.) and certain tactics which one can learn and practice, in order to significantly improve his/her communication with people they are interested in.
Of course, first of all what is required is to start off with a better understanding of one’s self (self-awareness based on self-observation); in other words, we should gain a better insight into how we function in various communication situations, in different roles of the self and with different kinds of people whom we relate to.
By working along with a life coach, you can discuss your communication style, the verbal and non-verbal messages you send out, get help in introducing changes, while learning valuable techniques on how to better express yourself and achieve a more persuasive, meaningful, and harmonious communication!
